Prepare Your Inactive Account!

It seems that a majority of technology consumers are accustomed to using Google services and products throughout their daily lives. In fact, many people rely on Google and its various products such as Gmail and Google Drive to store and retrieve essential data.

While there are those who are well-versed in the various features and facets of these Google products, many are unaware of one of the most vital Google features: Google Inactivity Manager.

While we should never have to deal with such issues, often loved ones of recently deceased family members struggle greatly to recover and/or access the Google accounts that belonged to their dearly departed.  Often, these accounts are the key to figuring out a plethora of information about their loved ones, not limited to banking/financial information, vital correspondences, and other important data stored in email and google storage.  Sadly, people often struggle to gain access to these accounts because the loved one did not share the password with anyone, and it dies with them.

Luckily, there is a solution to this issue!

Google Inactivity Manager is a feature built-in to all of our Google accounts! It allows you to choose what duration of time must pass before it activates. Once you do not access your account in any way for the allotted duration, it will give access to all (or whatever information you choose) to whomever you select.

By setting this up, one can feel secure knowing that if tragedy struck, their loved ones would still be able to gain access to the information they need by simply waiting the prescribed amount of time, then gaining access to the deceased’s accounts.

Without this feature, it is nearly impossible to gain access to another person’s account, and Google will make it tough on family members seeking to retrieve information from their loved one’s account(s).

It takes less than FIVE MINUTES to set up Google Inactivity Manager and the settings can be changed or revoked at any time.  It is worthwhile to head over there right now and gain some peace of mind.  The same way anyone would write a will, or get life insurance, one should make sure their loved ones will have access to the data they need in case tragedy strikes.
